We’re excited to share that Professor Ishanu Chattopadhyay’s proposal, “Escape-resistant Vaccine Design for COVID-19 Using Machine Learning on Emerging Sequence Patterns” with his Co-PI Aaron Esser-Kahn with the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (click here for the abstract) has been selected for funding with the Big Ideas Generator (BIG). 

BIG announced a funding call in 2019 welcoming early-stage ambitious research proposals in any field of scholarly inquiry at the University of Chicago. Three tiers of grants were offered: Workshop grants up to $5K, Seed grants up to $15K, and Vision grants up to $75K.

Professor Chattopadhyay received a total of $80k in funding with joint internal suppport from the Office of Research and the Biological Sciences Division (BSD).

A formal presentation on this proposal will take place in the COVID-related all-faculty Research Forum at 3:30pm on Friday, June 12, 2020 (details about the announcement is forthcoming).
