Dear colleagues,
We’re looking forward to seeing you all this upcoming Wednesday for our first workshop session of Winter Quarter. We will be discussing Tahel Goldsmith‘s dissertation chapter “Beyond the Authentic: The Peripheries of Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, 1945-2004.” Brigitte McFarland will serve as discussant, and this will be a joint session with the Jewish Studies workshop.
The workshop session will take place on Wednesday, January 10th, from 4:00 to 5:30 pm, in the Social Sciences Tea Room (SSRB 201). Please note that this session will be in a different location than usual. We will resume meeting in the JHF room on January 17th.
Tahel’s paper is now available on our TAMEW Canvas page and on our website under the heading “Current Paper” (contact us for the password). We want to provide a content warning: this chapter draft includes an image of human remains and discussion surrounding their treatment during the Holocaust and at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. Please feel free to opt out of this session if you see fit. As always, we are available at rceb@uchicago.edu and tgoldsmith@uchicago.edu to address your questions or concerns.
