SCU:BA - Summer Coding @ UChicago: Builders Academy

The Computer Science Department at the University of Chicago in partnership with UChicago Hillel and the Code Your Dreams are collaborating on the SCU:BA – Summer Coding @ UChicago:  Builders Academy program.

The Summer Coding @ UChicago: Builders Academy (“SCU:BA”) program seeks to provide high school students on Chicago’s South Side with technology and programming experience which will enhance their academics and possibly prepare them for future careers. SCU:BA will be open to local students who attend a Chicago Public High School in Bronzeville, Hyde Park, or Kenwood. High school students will be mentored and taught by UChicago undergraduates in the areas of computer science and programming, including introductions to the following technologies: Python, HTML, CSS, and Flask. Each student who completes this program will be given their own laptop computer to use for the rest of the summer and beyond. This program is designed for impact at multiple levels: the high school students will gain education and practical skills, the UChicago students will gain experience in teaching and in connecting with communities in Chicago, and all participants will collectively strengthen their communities through connection, skill-building, and a shared commitment to each other’s growth and development.
