Gabriella S. (Class of 2024)

Gabriella is a third year student in the College majoring in Psychology. Her personal academic interests include moral and developmental psychology, as well as abstract topics such as happiness and meaning. This summer, Gabriella enrolled in Psychological Research Methods and also worked in Dr. Fan Yang’s Human Nature and Potentials Lab as part of her research assistantship.

Before SISRM, Gabriella had already been working with Dr. Yang, but this summer, she took on a leadership position, ran research solo sessions with children, and learned about the work that goes into managing a lab. Gabriella hopes to continue working at Dr. Yang’s lab as she believes that there is more to learn and discover about Psychology and research in general.

When asked about her time as a SISRM fellow, Gabriella said that the program did not only provide her with research experience, but that through the weekly workshops, she was able to learn about graduate school opportunities and useful resources in academia. In her own words:

“SISRM is a program to ask as many questions as you can, because it’s unlikely that you’ll ever get an opportunity like this again in your undergrad career. This lineup of professors and professionals are here specifically to teach and help you and they don’t expect you to know everything or even anything about their professions and foci, so ask questions!! Learning from others who know more than you is probably one of the most constant and valuable things in academia.”
