Melanoma Sentinel Node

Sentinel nodes for melanoma should be submitted entirely and the proper histology protocols should be added for each cassette that has node or candidate node.

Gross

  1. Weigh and measure in three dimensions.
  2. Dissect superficial fat from node(s).
  3. Serially section node(s) at 2 mm intervals, perpendicular to long axis of node. Document any areas of necrosis, hemorrhage, fibrosis, or discoloration.
  4. Submit entirely (no more than 2 sections per cassette).
  5. Submit fat in a separate cassette.
  6. For all cassettes that contain node or candidate node (not obvious fat), please ensure that the Histology Protocol with appropriate H&E and Unstained slides is loaded. You can use the “Copy Last” function in Beaker to add cassettes for this purpose:
