Gross
- The specimen usually consists of an aggregate of fibrocartilaginous tissue and bone.
- Measure aggregate in three dimensions.
- Inspect for any chalky white areas (possible pseudogout).
- Submit representative sections of soft tissue in 1 cassette.
- Submit representative bone (if present) in 1 additional cassette. Decalcify bone as appropriate, making sure to include “following [HCl or EDTA] decalcification” in your cassette summary and to add the “Decalcification” charge to a block in CaseBuilder.
