Gross

  1. The specimen usually consists of an aggregate of fibrocartilaginous tissue and bone.
  2. Measure aggregate in three dimensions.
  3. Inspect for any chalky white areas (possible pseudogout).
  4. Submit representative sections of soft tissue in 1 cassette.
  5. Submit representative bone (if present) in 1 additional cassette. Decalcify bone as appropriate, making sure to include “following [HCl or EDTA] decalcification” in your cassette summary and to add the “Decalcification” charge to a block in CaseBuilder.
