Ear & Temporal Bone

Auriculectomies may include only the auricle (skin, cartilage), ear with parotid gland, or the entire external auditory canal up to the tympanic membrane (a cone-shaped specimen including temporal bone). Discuss your approach with an attending and photograph liberally.

If the specimen consists only of auricular skin and cartilage without bone, it may be considered similar to a complicated skin ellipse. Discuss inking and sectioning with your attending.
