Gross

1. You will likely receive 2 containers per case for either transplant or native heart biopsies.
2. Please verify that the Transplant (OHT) Biopsies are accessioned as part type “Heart transplant (OHT) biopsy” and that the Native Biopsies are accessioned as part type “Myocardium, biopsy for histo.”
3. Biopsy in Formalin (for standard H&E / IHC) : Count and dictate the number of fragments. Submit entirely in mesh bag and stain with eosin. Submit on biopsy run.
4. Biopsy in Zeus or Michele (for immunofluorescence) : Count and dictate the number of fragments, making sure to dictate the correct medium. Do NOT remove tissue from container. Place container, empty cassette, and copy of requisition in a plastic bag in IF box in refrigerator.
5. Biopsy in Glutaraldehyde (for electron microscopy): Count and dictate the number of fragments, making sure to dictate the correct medium. Do NOT remove tissue from container. Place container and EM request form in a plastic bag in EM box in refrigerator.
